An examination of the architectural heritage of the GDR and an architecture that has significantly characterised the cityscape of Chemnitz as a representative cultural building since 1974.
The extension blends into the texture of the existing structure as a new building block. Based on the existing arrangement, the polygonal geometry of the building is naturally developed further and weaves itself into the urban context. The new volumes occupy the main façades and redefine the threshold between public space and building with simple means. The building opens up confidently to the city.
